1.2162, 21MnCr5 is a case hardened steel. It achieves surface hardnesses of approx. 60 HRC in carburized condition. Application when required high surface hardness and ductile core. It is suitable for die typing and burnishing. Application: small and medium forms for processing of thermo and and thermosetting plastic, construction parts with high surface hardness and high strength. it is Steel susceptible to tools with a high surface hardness and tough core, dies and punches for cold metal forming, plastic moulds.

The mechanical testing of 21MnCr5 forged shafts shall be performed on the qualification on its QTC representing the heat and heat treatment lot in accordance with ASTM A370, ASTM E8 or ISO 6892-1.
Hardness testing shall be in accordance with:
— ISO 6506-1 or ASTM E10, or
— ISO 6508-1 or ASTM E18.
—ISO 6507-1 or ASTM E384 maybe used if ISO 6506-1 or ISO 6508-1 cannot be applied due to size, accessibility, or other limitations.

Identification number, material number and designation, order number, drawing number,

- Heat number, heat chemical analysis, melting method and product chemical analysis;
- Certificate of heat treatment including method of cooling, actual part temperature, holding
