EN353 is a 1.1/4% Nickel Chromium Casehardening Steel 815M17 / EN353 can be carburised and hardened to produce a hard wear resistant case with a core strength of 770N/mm2, suitable for the manufacture of gears, camshafts, pinions, tappets, valve rockers, collets, track pins, steering parts & other transmission components.
815M17,EN353 forged parts production shall be performed by using one of the following methods:
Electric arc welding process (remelting if necessary)
Induction furnace process vacuum melting (or remelting, if necessary – e.g. ESR
Argon-Oxygen Decarburization (AOD) method.

Normalizing: 850 – 900°C,Cooling in air
Isothermal annealing:850 – 900°C,Cooling to 650°C with 2 hours time holding.Cooling in furnace
Subcritical Annealing:650 – 700°C,Cooling in furnace
Carburizing:870-900°C
Core-hardening:840-870°C,oil-polymer salt bath
Case-hardening:800-830°C,oil-polymer salt bath
Tempering:150-200°C

Number of tests of 815M17 forged parts. The following tests have to be carried out:
Chemical analysis: 1 for heat
HB hardness: 2 for bar, one on each end
Macrographic examination: 2 for bar, one on each end
Grain size: both ends of 1 bar from each lot
H.T. tensile strength: 1 for lot .
H.T. tensile strength: 1 for each temperature and lot, on mixed specimens (un-notched andnotched)
An inspection certificate 3.1 according EN 10204 of our 815M17 forged bars should have following
