17NiCrMo6-4 is low carbon case hardening steel which has at least 0.8Cr%,1.2%Ni and 0.15%Mo. It is the most common case hardening steel and has a medium-high hardenability and good machinability. After case hardening and hardening treatments, the surface reaches an elevated hardness.
All our forged 17NiCrMo6-4 material is melted in ultra-high power electric arc furnaces and then refined using advanced ladle metallurgy. Vacuum degassing and vacuum oxygen decarburization (VOD) processes assure optimum steel cleanliness,ESR that depends on clients needs,

Following is heat treatment way of 17NiCrMo6-4,1.6566 forged parts
Normalizing:850 – 880°C/air
Soft annealing:650 – 700°C/furnace
Stress relieve:630- 650oC
Carburising:880 – 980°C
Core hardening:830 – 870°C/water
Intermediate annealing:630 – 650°C
Case hardening:780 – 820°C/water
Tempering:150 – 200°C

The mechanical testing of 17NiCrMo6-4,1.6566 forged shafts shall be performed on the qualification on its QTC representing the heat and heat treatment lot in accordance with ASTM A370, ASTM E8 or ISO 6892-1.
Hardness testing shall be in accordance with:
— ISO 6506-1 or ASTM E10, or
— ISO 6508-1 or ASTM E18.
—ISO 6507-1 or ASTM E384 maybe used if ISO 6506-1 or ISO 6508-1 cannot be applied due to size, accessibility, or other limitations.
ALl our finished 17NiCrMo6-4,1.6566 forging rings should be accepted by the QC department of the manufacturer by conducting the following
examinations:
1) external examination;
2) a check of dimensions and marking;
3) chemical composition examination;
4) mechanical tests;
5) macrostructure examination;
6) residual stress measurement;
7) ultrasonic testing;
8) periscopic testing.
