Inconel 725 is a nickel-chromium alloy with significant additions of molybdenum, niobium and titanium. It can be supplied in the hot worked, annealed and age-hardened condition. It is age-hardened to achieve extremely high strength, approximately twice that of Alloy 625 in the annealed condition, through the precipitation of ϒ” phase during a controlled heat treatment process.
The inconel 725 forging material shall be melted by one of the following methods:
Vacuum Induction Melted (VIM) followed by Vacuum Arc Re-melted(VAR).
Vacuum Induction Melted (VIM) followed by Electroslag Re-melting(ESR).
Air Electric Furnace Melted followed by Argon Oxygen Degas (AOD)and Electroslag Re-melting (ESR).
Air Electric Furnace Melted followed by Argon Oxygen Degas (AOD) and Vacuum Arc Re-melted (VAR).
In no case can a cleaner melting process be used for the QTC than the material it is qualifying. Re-melt grade material removed from a single re- melt ingot may be used to qualify other re-melt grade material which has
been and is from the primary melt. No individual alloying shall be performed on these individual ingots.

Manganese, % 0.35 max.
Silicon, % 0.2 max.

MECHANICAL PROPERTIES
Tensile test specimens shall be taken from the material in the solution annealed and precipitation hardened condition.
Tensile tests shall be tested in the longitudinal direction using the full cross-section when possible. If full cross-section cannot be tested, the largest possible tensile from ASTM E8 must be used.
Mechanical properties from a mill qualification report representing the same heat and heat treatment cycle as the material being purchased shall be acceptable.
The inconel 725 forgingmaterial, in the solution annealed and precipitation hardened condition, shall meet the following minimum requirements:
Tensile Strength (psi) 150,000
Yield Strength (psi) 120,000
Elongation in 2” or 4D (%) 20
Reduction of Area (%) 35
Hardness (Rockwell C) 30-43
Impact Properties of alloy 725 forged parts
Test temperature, and V-Notch Charpy values requirements shall be:

-75oF 31 ft.-lbs. 24 ft.-lbs.
The test specimens should be sampled from a t/4 location where "t" is the thickness of the test coupon.
Unless otherwise specified, the Charpy V-Notch specimens are to be oriented in the longitudinal direction, with the notch machined such that it is perpendicular to the material surface (from which t/4 is measured).
No sub-size impact test specimens smaller than 10MM x10MM are to be used
Two hardnesses shall be taken from the surface of the QTC after heat treatment.
Chemical, mechanical, and impact testing may be conducted on pieces cut from the forging or bar and subjected to the equivalent heat treatment as the component.
The temperature levels for inconel 725 forging bars shall be monitored by using a heat sink. The heat sink is to be the same material as the component being tested and the ER of the heat sink shall be equal to or larger than the greatest ER of any part in heat treatment.
The temperature sensing tip of the thermocouple shall be within the part or heat sink, and be no closer than 1 in (25 mm) from any external or internal surface.
A production part may be used as an alternative to a heat sink provided the guidelines
Inconel 725 forgings will be inspected as below:
Hardness test and Visual Inspection.
The inconel 725 forged product shall be inspected for laps, seams, folds, and re-entry grains and those defects ground out.
The following information is mandatory on the certified record of all our inconel 725 forging parts:
Purchase Order number and MISSION VG Specification number complete with revision letter.
Statement of the melting process used.
Chemical analysis and heat number.
Statement of heat treatment including time/temperature cycle, cooling media, and hardness of the forging and coupon separately.
Statement of actual values of the mechanical properties which wereobtained from the test coupon, as stipulated in paragraph 5.0.
The number of forgings or hot rolled bars submitted from each heat.
Liquid Penetrant or Magnetic Particle reports.
Ultrasonic Testing or Radiography reports.
Documentation in accordance with NACE MR0175/ISO15156 and EN 10204, Type 3.1.

PT (Liquid Penetrant) testing is to be used. 100% dimensional inspection on random number of lot required.

Ultrasonic testing is to be used first but if it is not applicable to the material then X- rays will be taken. 100% dimensional inspection on all parts is required.The inconel 725 forged product shall be inspected for laps, seams, folds, and re-entry grains and those defects ground out.
