The material 1.7218 is a chrome-molybdenum alloyed tempering steel with good welding properties. Due to its chemical composition, it is suitable for tempering and due to the very good toughness has good tensile strengths, which is why it is used primarily for components in which these characteristics are very important.

For(+FP) or (+TH) conditions of 25Crmo4 forged bars, the mechanical characteristics may be required for an order. The tests are performed on a sample taken in a bar from the same casting and having the same hot working rate according to the provisions laid down in standard EN10084.
Ultrasonic testing of 1.7218 forged b ars
On each bar or cut section, ultrasonic testing is performed according to standard
EN 10308 for bars to a diameter up to 300 mm
EN10228-3 for bars with a diameter over 300 mm
Definition of the families of parts:
- solid cut sections or bars: 1a
- drilled cut sections or bars: 3a (10228 -3)
Acceptance class of 25Crmo4 forged bars
in the area between outside diameter D and D/2: class 3 with R < 4/5 (class D/c according to SEP 1921)
in the other cut sections of the part: class 2 (class Cc according to SEP 1921) with R>= ¾ class 2 (class Cc according to SEP 1921) with R>= ¾
Unless otherwise specified, the method retained will be the equivalent diameter method.
Unless otherwise specified, the sampling plan will be exploratory sampling according to 3 generators with 120° at least.
The operator must have COFREND or equivalent level 2 certification at least, unless otherwise specified when ordering.
Inspection documents of finished 25crmo4 forged bars
The supplier sends an acceptance certificate as per 3.1 of standard EN 10204 with the parts and for each order.
This certificate, identified with a casting number, includes the results for all of the inspections required in clients technical manual
Compliance with the requirements of this specification is mentioned on the certificate.
