1.4980 is a Heat resistant steel with high strength, creep resistance, low magnetic permeability and high oxidation resistance. Endurance properties are obtained by emitting MC, M6C carbides by means of nickel, titanium and aluminum.It retains the appropriate mechanical properties to a temperature of about 650 - 700 ℃. In addition, it exhibits suitable strength properties at extremely low temperatures. Heat resistant to a temperature of about 800 - 900 ℃.
1.4980 forged parts production shall be performed by using one of the following methods:
Electric arc welding process (remelting if necessary)
Induction furnace process vacuum melting (or remelting, if necessary – e.g. ESR
Argon-Oxygen Decarburization (AOD) method.

Mechanical properties shall be tested on samples cut away from the tangential test ring taken from 1.4980 forged and rolled rings in the delivery condition.
The residual test material, with the serial number stamped on it, must be delivered to clients
Specimens shall be taken from both tangential and transverse directions.
Impact test at room temperature and Brinell hardness test have to be performed according to EN ISO 148-1 and EN ISO 6506-1, respectively.
Tensile tests have to be performed according to EN ISO 6892-1 and -2, with specimens taken possibly transverse to the main direction of plastic transformation.
Tensile strength Rm 900 - 1150 MPa
Yield point Re > 600 MPa
Elongation A > 15%
Micrographic characteristics of 1.4980 forged parts
The sampling of metallographic specimens shall be approved by clients.
The optical micrographs shall be taken on polished specimens after etching by Kalling’s reagent at x200 and x500 magnifications.
• Regular microstructure: after the supply heat-treatment, delta phase shall be uniformly distributed with globular and/or rectangular shape;
• Irregular microstructure: the presence of acicular delta phase, stringers/networks of precipitates and sharp edge grains is admitted only if
results of all mechanical properties required by part spec are acceptable
