Nitronic 50 is is an austenitic premium stainless steel that provides better corrosion resistance than 300 or 400 series stainless. The combination of strength, superior corrosion resistance, and low magnetic permability makes this alloy a top choice for high-risk applications such as medical implantations. It also remains non-magnetic in cold environments, unlike other austenitic grades.

The properties exhibited by the Qualification Test Coupon (QTC)as described in APl 6A section 5.7 shall represent the properties of the thermal response of the material comprising the production parts it
qualifies."
Test specimens shall be taken from a representative QTC made from the same heat of steel and shall receive substantially the same reduction and type of hot working as the production material that it represents.The QTC shall be a prolongation or a trepanned core removed from a production part.
The QTC shall be heat treated in the same furnace charge and under the same conditions as the production materials
The dimensions of the QTC shall be determined from the Equivalent Round(ER)calculations exhibited in Figure 3 of APl 6A.The ER of the QTC shall be equal to or greater than the dimensions of the part it qualifies.However the QTC need not be greater than 125mm diameter or square."
Test specimens shall be removed from the QTC such that their longitudinal centre line axis is whollywithin the center core 1/4T envelope for a solid QTC or within 3 mm(1/8 in)of the mid-thickness of the thickest section of a hollow QTC."
One tension test and one set of Charpy specimens shall be made for each heat of as-forged components in a heat treatment charge."
The testing and reporting shall be performed in accordance with ASTM A370 Test Methods

Nitronic 50 forged Materials supplied to this specification will be impact tested.Test samples will be removed from a Qualification Test Coupon(QTC)as described in Section 5.7 of APl 6A.The impact test shall be
conducted in accordance with the procedures specified in ASTM A370 using the Charpy V notch technique.A minimum of three specimens is required to be tested to qualify a heat of material.
Specimen orientation shall be in transverse or longitudinal.
Minimum average impact value for the three specimens in the Transverse direction is 20J(15ft-lbf) and the longitudinal direction is 27J(20ft-Ib).The Charpy V-Notch impact testing temperature for
different material classes shall be as per API 6A.
